The manual says there is a relay on the wire between the ignition and the starter solenoid. Anyone know where it is, having a bugger of a time tracing the wire.

My mates was behind the firewall, an absolute a**hole to get to, dash had to come out, it had to be tackled from both sides. From memory it was a 25AMP fuse that had gone, so we replaced it with a 30AMP and put a 25AMP fuse further down the line, somewhere more accessable,so if it goes again, it'll be a lot easier to replace!.
Mine went a couple of months ago, I've just attached a length of aluminium wire to the fuel cut off, which I pull, to shut down the engine. It comes out the front grill, so by the time you're out of the vehicle, and walked around the front, it has acted like a manual turbo timer!. I know it's a bit agricultural!.Cheers, Gerry.....

Thanks Gerry, but do you mean the fuel shut-off solenoid? I am talking about the starter motor - the wire from the ignition to the solenoid on the starter is supposed to have a relay in the middle???

Yeah, your right Ben, I've been up at Hope Vale this week, giving a mate a hand to rebuild a 6BD1. I'll have a look on mine tomorrow and let you know.....cheers.....Gerry.

Thanks Gerry, but we have sorted that problem. The relay was on the firewall on the same side as the starter. The feed to the relay had contacted the exhaust and shorted/burnt through. Luckily it hadn"t caused an underbonnet fire!!!
