G'Day,
Well the LR sickness as well and truly set in.
We have a '97 300TDi Disco which we are very happy with AND KEEPING IT.
We also have a 2000 Pajero io...which is good but a little small for playing in....and its just to reliable
I think it would be a bit stupid to buy another Disco (eventhough I would like 2 Disco's)....so thinking maybe a Defender 110...say a '94-'98 ...well as long as its got a 300 TDi I would be happy
As I know F all about Defenders...can you guys please let us know about the pros and cons of them please?
Ive never really liked the look of them...but as I said the sickness is getting worse
I have found out that some find them :
windy,
wet,
uncomfe seats,
things are not in a good place ie window winders, heater controls etc,
only manual etc.
I havent even driven one but thought you guys would give us the "Balls & All" run down of a Fender

You will love it, then hate it.
Then love it, then hate it.
Then love it, then hate it.
And this cycle will continue for eternity.
Windy, wet, noisy, impractical, poorly designed, bad turning cicrle - there isn't a lot going for them really.
But fark I love mine
No, wait...I hate it
Ok...I love it again.

The Defender is the classic Landrover. There is nothing like it and there will be nothing like it. If you can deal with everything like water leaks(iNternal) shocking ergonomics, noisy interior, poor insulation and marginal A/c , heating and windscreen wipers, then you will be hooked and never own another 4x4.
I would love a 130 C cab, but my wife says NO..For all the above reasons.
I think there is nothing else to compare, and yes, I work on them daily AND I could rabbit on about them forever...

I think the Defender is a more refined
version of the classic Landrover which can be lived with on a daily basis. That is, it has the best of the series landrovers attributes but also the good stuff they dont, like disc brakes, much better turning circle, ability to cruise on the highway, power steering, coil springs and even a few safety features. Saying this, a series rover has a lot more galvanised parts and thicker alloy panels.
Yes, you will love it and you will hate it.

I can't understand why anyone would want to drive anything else.
Carry a tonne inside and tow 3.5 tonnes

by Rangie ute on 38''
Ive been very hapy with mine, ive found it 99% reliable, only time its let me down is front tail shaft uni exploded and came through drivers floor, resulted from uni joint drying of grease.
pros
Hose out interior, nothing you can stain or root.
The best low range gearing youll find in a factory 4x4
low c.o.g
alloy body
big and strong chassis
factory extended diff,g/box and t case breathers
10l/100km and for a diesel in their time they arnt to slow
i find them mechanically good to work on most things seem well placed and servicable,
coil and discs allround
storage under front seats(great in the ute)
removable seats
components are well tucked away with large chassis rails to slide on.
removable bonnet.
big windscreen washer bottle
very safe on road with constant 4x4
cheap to replace wind screen cause its flat and small
gotta love the vents in the dash, old fashion but shit hot
cons
ive found that the air con needs to be running a while for the cab to cool down.
if your a big bloke then it might be a bit tight and short on leg room
poor plastic qaulity.
alot of people complain about electrical probs
it gives me the shits listening to people winge about em being old and ugly and uncomfortable, at the end of the day its born as a bush pig used as a military rig and designed in mind that its not going to turn into a soft roader with carpet leather and sat nav, like all these other so called 4x4s and soccer mum cars

Not everyone wants or needs a Softroader in the real world some people actually rely on thier 4X4 and its not a toy quite frankly few come up trumps as often as a "Real Land Rover"
