Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Well new tyre time has come around again and I am going to get another set of MTR/S great tyre no need to convince me of another brand.
But the question is should I stick with the 285s or go to the 33" as I am not a great fan of the alloy rims I have at the moment.
Plus going to the 15" Steelies will give me a wider track
I have had good wear out of the 285s and am wondering if the 33" will be the same or wear quicker with them not being LT construction.
Any opinions and/or experience appreciated.

get some 16x8 steels and go with them again

Stay with 16's...

what benifits do the 16s have? i would have thought 15s would be the better option
15in tyres seem to be easier to come by in an emergency out in the sticks

I thought about getting alloys later but would be interested to hear your opinion as to their performance..etc..

Well actually 16's are just as easy now to get in middle of nowhere.. as long as you stay with a common size (same as 15's really)

16's have a larger weight carrying rating apparently.

16's should be more fuel efficient and have better onroad handling and braking (weight + shorter sidewall).

Obviously offroad you get less sidewall flex.

Also most 285/75/16"s are noticably taller than 33"x12.5"x15", by about 2/3".

Usually easier to get secondhand 15"s, but if you buy new, I'd go 16's.

my 285/75/16 mtr's measure about 10mm smaller than 33i and about 11.2i wide they handle great but where so fast.

Most 285/75's have a listed size of about 33.1-33.3"

Most 33" are listed as about 32.6-32.8"

without question go the 285/75's!! i put them on my defender 130 ute at the same time my mate put 33/12.5'son his 75 and mine wore ten times better (evenly and longer lasting), mine were 10 times quieter on road and performed heaps better on road and in wet! absolutely no comparison (yes diferent vehicles, both had wheel aligments, etc same time) although he never took the cruiser off road and mine was constantly off road using the 'little stick' - 4wding. when we bought them as well when mounted to rims with same pressure mine were defintely taller but a bit narrower.

I just got some 305/70/16 BFG mudders. Just that bit wider than the 285's, same height and look cool as on the 16" alloys.
Havent been 4x4ing with them yet though.
