Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Sorry all i am a rover noob, don't know anything about them had a good search and couldn't find what i needed.
Basically a lt230 as is in project genisis (4wd monthly) comes out of what vehicle?
as i can get a series 3 landrover for nothing but don't know what it has in it.
Are they all part time? different low and high ratios?
Please let me in on the big mystery and also is there any mods required for rear engined buggy use?

All RRs from the mid 80's to the early? 90's. All Discoveries. All 90/110/130s and Defenders. They are all 3.32:1 low range. High range varies from 1:1 to 1.6:1 depending on the application.

Series transfer cases are different and yes are all part time.

above is correct all range rovers in that category except the 89 model where, for sum unknown reason, they wacked in a Viscous Transfer case without a 100% mechanical centre diff lock.
I will say in my 89 it never gave me any problems when unlocked. And i had 37" rubber, the viscous is much quiter onroad but for any one wanting a offroad vehicle the LT230 is the pick by far.

LT230 is full time 4wd w/cdl

OK good info what does the transfer with 1.6:1 high range come out of?
Are these full time 4wd with center diff lock or proper part time?
Also dont know what 90/110/130's are range rovers or land rovers?

1.6 - defender, 1.192 - manual/ auto rangie/disco, 1.003 rangie 3spd auto, others i dont have ratio's for at hand.

1.6 high range? I know Td5 defenders are 1.411, never heard of a 1.6 ratio high range before though?? Must be an early model, say 200Tdi?

90/110/130 are the different wheelbases of Defenders.

All LT230s have centre diff lock, excepting a couple of years of Series 2 Discovery. In unlocked mode, all the power can go to any one wheel - IE. If any one wheel comes off the ground (doesn't matter whether its front or rear), all the power wil go to it and you won't be moving. With centre diff lock in, it locks the power split to 50% front diff and 50% rear - which means that you have to get a wheel on each end of the car off the ground before you lose momentum.

Oh and handbrake disc or drum?

Lever, though you can easily get an electronic control from an aftermarket Disco2 setup. The handbrake is a drum on the rear output.

BTW, I also though Defenders were all 1.4 in high range.

AFAIK most defenders are 1.41:1. The 1.6:1 was used in those with the 2.5 diesel (before the 200Tdi).

so what hits the ground 1st? the disc or the t/case? My drum is cover in battle scares!!
