Problems with a relay.Help please?

I blew a spotlight relay last night when I was out wheelin.I put a new one in today and I encountered a problem. One spotlight came on.Even when ignition and lights were all off.Spotlights would not work together. In fact they wouldn't work at all except for the one that as permanently on.
This made me think I had mixed up the wiring and wired the one light straight to the battery.I checked it again and the wiring had been done correctly.
Is my new relay broken. Is it stuck on?
What do you reckon?
Cheers

There are two sorts of 5 pin relays, one will have an 87 and an 87A terminal (Changeover) whereas the other will have two 87 terminals (Double throw). The one you want is the double throw..

This thread should help with the diagrams
