Hi everyone.

Have a problem wih my auto in a /93 200tdi disco. On my way back from fraser isl. on saturday and got a small hole in one of the oil cooler lines where a mtn bkt rubbed through, lost around 4.5 ltrs before i noticed and could stop. Did a quick road side patch and refilled with oil, but the poor thing got a bit hot. Know the kick down cable is locked tight, i assume i have seized shift valves (even disconneting the kick down cable would not allow manul shifting). Does anyone have any advise or know any goodd landy/auto repairs in brisbane. Would the box need to come out to change the valves? or can it be done in car?

Cheers guys
steve.

Hi Steve

Common pro0blem, if the auto gets hot enough in these, they cen melt the kickdown cable outer sheath, causing it to lock.

Yes it is likely the box is damaged, BUT, I had one in a Defender that had an overheat like this, the oil smelt like an ashtray etc and I had told the owner to expect the worst, but I put a kickdown cable in it and so far, 3 months ago, all is well.

Give it a try and see. You'll have to remove the valve body though, and other than this it is easy. Kickdown cable is about $150.

Regards,

JC

does anyone know where could you get the cable re-sleeved and new ends crimped, i reccon 150 is steep for a modified pushbike brake!

Andrew,

I agree it's expensive, but if you are going to have to remove the valve body etc to fit the cable, you want whoever it is to make a good one so you don't have to do it again. You will also note when you pull it out that it has an O ring seal on the outer at the box end.

I reckon if you surfed around parts suppliers in the UK you would find it a bit cheaper.

We have 'Cablemate' here in Hobart, I would trust them to make me one, but they will only replace the cable part, and will want to re use the ends, which won't be much use if they are melted....
