there s a wanted section and a radio section, two excellent to make this post.
To start think about just getting a handheld with 3km range, unless you plan to wheel solo out very far for very long with no mobile phone signal

I have Uniden handhelds - Better for when you have someone riding with you who may have to get out of the car to spot you on something. Also work fine in a convoy of 4x4's. Plus I have a soft top so I don't have to leave $$$ UHF on show for someone to pinch.

i've got the GME TX3200 Uhf in my zook. It fits nicely with the standard mount and a bit of modding into the ashtray slot on a WT zook or 88 onwards i think. A lot of others have done this as well....it keeps it out of the way and is less obvious for thieving little bastards. I've also got two basic uhf handhelds for spotting and other short range random stuff.

all brands of UHF cb are good. UHF is the way to go in mobile communications. it's clear and can transmit long distances via repeater channels. AM radios are a thing of the past and they sound like crap. You can pick one up almost anywhere. Dicksmith, Tandy's or many other communcation and 4x4 shops. You can pick up a good buy from the trading post and some pretty good prices. If you are just starting out the little cheap handhelds are ideal. They dont have a lot of power but some do have repeater access. and about a 2 km range, line of sight. but make sure they are the 40 channel with duplex repeater channels. some of the realy cheap and nasty ones and pretty much walky talky's
hope this helps
