guys thinking about buying a SD33 turbo MK/MQ to use solely as a cheap reliable tow car for my competition rig.....
the total weight of my comp truck and trailer is about 2500kgs....
just curious as to the thoughts of you guys as to how well they would pick up the weight? would they die in the ass as soon as they got weight on? or would they be able to pull the weight ok and get to speed eventually?
anyone with experiances with this motor for towing heavy weight?
cheers

I towed my jag which is 1960 kgs, then add the trailer. I towed it from wagga to syd and wasnt too bad on 4.3 diffs with a 2.25 pipe and std psi running std clutch fan on a 2inch body lift. Was a bit slow up hills but heat was more the issue with mine as it was october and we were pushing it pretty hard. Was kinda scarey in a SWB esp once the trailer started swaying.
could maintain 100kay easliy on the flat ground, but the trailer started dancing at about 110
Now mine has a 3inch straight through ,twin thermos, 4.6 gears and the turbo wastgate has been blocked off so is runing on the relief valve. If ya wanna hook up your crap to my POS ya can take it for a drive, It'll love a clean out anyway and then youll now for sure if they can handle it.
I'd go a LWB for sure.
cheers

in NSW they have changed the rules a million times.... the current rule for a 4x4 is it is aloud to tow what ever the towing capasity of the bar is.
this works well as you cant get a bar rated at anymore than 2500 for MQs and GQs.....
so it just covers me
the old rules used to be the towing capasity of the car... which in a GQ is about 2400 and a MQ is about 1600 but thats only due to motor and gearing etc, mqs are just as strong in the chassis as a GQ.... so im not worried.....

In actual fact the laws now cover australia wide and read
A front wheel drive vehicle is allowed to tow equal to its own weight
A rear wheel drive is allowed to tow 1 1/2 times its own weight
A 4wd is allowed to tow twice its own weight
OR
Manufacturer's recomendation.
OR
australian standards towbar manufacturers recomendation.
Which ever is the lesser

most tow balls i think are about 2500......
i will get away with towing with it if everything on the towbar plates says 2500 i reckon
