Smokey on startup???

My V8 chev seems to become the Batmobile when starting the old girl up.... massive amounts of blue coloured smoke come out for about 10-15 secs then dies down. But if ya give it a bit of a rev, ya get another cloud of smoke screen.

It's not that bad once the engine warms up, although I have been told that when I'm on the highway and give it a bootful she blows a bit!!!

Any ideas where to start with this problem???

Cheers.

sounds like rings are on the way out time for a new set of piston n rings

need to do a compression test on the engine to determine weather its rings or valve stem seals

I agree; to get you by a little longer so you can save up to get this done, put in a heavier weight oil.

Valve Stem Seals ?

Do a comp. test. If that comes up OK your valve stem seals may have hardened. Compress cyl. and your rocker can be removed without removing cyl. head.

OK, so how much does it cost for a compression tester for a diesel???

I believe they have a higher pressure and can't be measured on a normal compression tester.... is this true???

Cheers.

For a petrol I'd say valve stem seals, if its only on startup.

If you have the appropriate tools (a hose with a sparkplug thread fitting and a compressor) these can be done with the head on without much trouble at all.

If there's a problem, the head has to come off.....

I use a Ryco comp. tester which uses fittings that an air line will fit to. Cut up an old sparkplug and weld an air line fitting to it.

Soooo, if it is just the Valve Stem Seals.... how bad is this???

And can I still drive it without doing too much damage??? Or is this an immediate fix thing????
