Fitting surf turbo to 3L

Hi there.
I've just bought a 3L motor fitted to a surf, it has it's turbo from it's previous motor fitted to it. I'm curious to know wether the airbox from a surf is different to the hilux and wether I'll have to change the airbox over too. I have a snorkel fitted and am a bit worried it's going to be a much bigger job that I'm expecting. Will I need to get the airbox from the surf too? Does the plumbing have to change much? And the exhaust manifold? Could some of you folks who have turbo'd their 3L's post a couple of pics of what their motor setup ended up looking like? I've done a bit of a search but can't seem to find what i'm after. thanks heaps in advance.

I have a surf with the 2L engine and have recently begun my engine conversion (the purchases anyway).

While planning the change I researched the 3L, 5L and 1KZ engines before choosing a MUCH cheaper option of the 1UZ-FE. So I cannot tell you from experience how it all fits but from my research - the 3L is the same engine as the 2L from the outside. Same mounts, same accessories, probably the same air intake.

The only exception I got warned about was using my 2L turbo on the 5L as it would fit, it would work, but not as well as a slightly larger hairdryer. I do not know if this applies to the 3L which is much closer in capacity.

http://www.toyotasurf.asn.au/forum/ is a good place to ask ;)

basicly all your doing is swapping the 2lt block and head for a 3L block and head. everything else stays the same.

Thanks for the replies, I will try the surf site and see what their bays look like. I guess a 2L turbo in a 5L motor is better than a 5L with no turbo at all. I'll still do the engine swap. I've already said I'd buy the motor so I'll just have to tackle the problems as they come. ADAPT, IMPROVISE, OVERCOME!
