Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Found i had a problem with my warn hi mount last night in the middle of a bog hole of course as you do , The small problem is that the winch will pull in the cable till is gets tension then stalls out. battery power is not a problem and the alternator is a new 130 amp. Some one last night was telling me about a pin or something that might not be located right or something like that . The clutch was engaged also double checked that , one other thing the winch when you stop the pulled the winch will spool out agian the rachet thingy is not jammed up either . This winch was mean to have been overhauled 6 months before i got it . Any idea or maybe who is a decent winch shop near coburg in victoria ?

There are no pins in the 8274 of this nature.
I suspect your motor is very tired
you say the ratchet isn't jammed,
Can you pull the cable out with the clutch disengaged? if not the the brake mach which includes a cam mech inside the ally casing may well be siezed!
the answer is to try freespooling the drum with the clutch out if if doesn't move further investigation is req'd
The 8274 is really easy to rebuild and a new motor cheap.
I have just rebuilt mine and fitted a 4.6hp motor and it has made the world of difference, my brake mech was siezed as was the cam inside and it took some freeing off!

my 10,000 warn did the exact same thing up Mt Skene yesterday which lead to much freezing brickies crack laying in snow digging with teaspoon size shovel... 3 times.

New motor approx $260
oil $12
plastic bearing $5
the rest was cleaned/greased and refitted
And it is running A1

Well i might even have a go at doing it myself worse case is i stuff it and then i send it to mal to fix . He must love jobs like that fixing someone else stuff up

Before you do anything,check all wiring for dirt and loose wires.
My old winch had same problem(works until load is aplied) and electrician found that earth wire had to much dirt on connection.all he did was clean all connections and winch was working like a dream again

I had the same on my 8274 and it was a loose connection on the little bolt that the earth connects to on the bottom of the motor. Probably worth checking all connections or even undoing, cleaning and then reassembling. Mine wouldn't even pull an unladen hilux stuck on wet grass. Thats when I knew something was wrong.

dose anyone no if you can replace the lose balls in a warn high mount with balls in a race so that they dont go every were

No need they are easy to refit as long as you lay the winch on its side to reassemble the brake mech.
A tip: leave the SAE30 out till this is done or it'll leak out
