Just wondering what year hilux'x have the same front diff as a 1991 RN105 model. Does an 86 Extra Cab, petrol ?
Also are the diff centres the same front and rear ?

The front and rear will interchange.
The rear has LSD the front does not. The crown wheels and pinions are identical.
Im not sure of the ratio on the RN105 but the ratio of the 86 xcab petrol is 4.88

Pal,
No disrespect to you, But,
If this is the case, why on RN105 (like mine)
are there 2 different model numbers
for the ARB air-lockers that fit them?? RD01 and RD23??
I just assumed they were different.
They look the same next to each other. But are you sure
they are exactly the same?? It'd be good if they were.
Cheers,
Bart

The LSD uses a different size side bearing to the open centre. Ring and pinions are the same. The 3rd member housing or casing is the same, it's just the ID that changes. RN105 = 4.88 ratio.

We just interchanged the two diffs on our 1985 Petrol hilux, as the rear was wearing down a little. They both went in without a hassle and the rear diff is quieter now too.

I've swapped mine front to rear a number of times and there is no difference apart from the diff centre. Same axle splines, bolt pattern, gears etc front and rear just that some have a LSD in the rear from factory.

Don't understand exactly what you're saying? Are you saying "if they're the same, then why is their two different part #" or are you stating a fact

i think the rdo1 is corse rd 23is for finer spline axles thats what i was told anyway , it could be wrong.

The difference between an RD01 and a RD23 is the bearing size. After 1990 Toyota ran larger bearings on the hemisphere.
Both can be used in early and late diffs as long as you use the correct bearings.
I run an RD01 in the front and an RD23 in the rear. The RD23 is a stronger centre due to the bearing difference.
