On the sierra I am building I have removed the rear bar and lights from under the tailgate. I am now fitting Hella LED lights to the actual tail gate.

What I want to know is there a law that states the minimum distance bewtween the lights. Can I fit them closer together or do I have to fit on extreme corners.

Last I heard was "no closer than 600mm apart". You may want a second opinion though.

It can be found on vic roads site, but ring Joey, his fit within the law as far as we could tell from the vic roads info.

Yeah from memory its 600 min apart and 300 max from outer edge of light to outer most part of the vehicle.

600 apart doesn't apply if the vehicle is less than 1.2m (?) wide, not dead sure if it was 1200, but must be within 300 or so of the edge.
