Gday i am driving up to Darwin in a few weeks and i am thinking of installing cruise control on my f78TD. I was thinking of thje Command AP50, thats pretty much all there is that is reasonably priced. Here is a link of what it is..... http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Cruise-Control-K ... dZViewItem

Has anyone installed one of these before, or used one? Any feedback would be great. Cheers guys.

Sounds like a good idea... Try a post in the General section, might get a better response.

You could always cheat and use the idle control knob.. its nothing like cruise... but on the freeway its better than nothing.. hha

(I do not condone this action in any way)

You beat me to it
Was gunna say the diesel's cam with factory cruise control :D I rarely use it, used a couple of times on the way to condo. Thats about it. 100k/hr for about 100ks of dead flat road  I figure if i need to stop in a great hurry i can stick the clutch in.

The only knob apart from the gear levers in my Roza is behind the wheel

Where do I find an idle control knob?

Is that some lazy arse wanker of a boss who must be telling people what to do all day? ;)

Sorry for the hijack...

Roza's aren't cool enough to have em, now get out of this thread and go cut some hair. :D

I'm pretty sure only serious 4x4's...aehem, i mean, urr, only diesels have em. Its basically just a hand control for the throttle. :D

If you don't have a auto you will need a clutch switch kit for the ap50 or just don't use the clutch with the cruise on.

as it will idle at 4 grand :D

Hey guys, this cruise control system looks a lot like the one on http://www.goldautomotive.nl/web-content-nl/index.php
Which I've installed in an Feroza. Was an easy job and worked awesome. The most difficult thing was to make a bracket to fit the vacuum actuator in such a way that the cable doesn't make too tight of a radius. The rest is straightforward: connect tht actuator with a hose to the existing hoses or pump mount the control unit under the dash, fit the speed sensor ( should be a magnetic pickup on the crossmember close to the driveshaft )connect the some signal wires (brake pedal switch, the control button unit) . unit worked real well , guess even better in a diesel rocky because of the engine characteristics. Hope this helps a bit

Cheers,
Ron

Only problem with an AP50 fitted to a Roza is in hilly country ( say between Lithgow & Bathurst ) they haven't got enough power.

Be alright for most of the trip to Darwin.

piece of piss to fit.

Cheers Leon...

I've bought a Command AP60 cruise control kit for my Rocky this week! :D

I'm half way through installing it (all wires are ran through the car), now I just need to mount the actuator and test it out tomorrow.

Let you all know how it goes.

I installed the actuator over on the passenger side firewall (next to my catch can  ) because It didn't wanna fit near my dual batteries and relays, wiring and all that stuff.

The last thing I need to do is the magnetic pickup on the tailshaft... The magnets are installed (with Araldite :D ) but I'm going to drill a hole in the crossmember to bolt the sensor on. I'm going to try to use the hoist at work this afternoon.

Everything else went in really easily.. bit too easily? :P ... cant wait to see if it actually works :D

I installed an AP50 on my Cherokee - easy to do, great instructions! I just did one step each night and works beautifully. Mine's an auto, you'd need an extra switch for a manual.
Go for it!

Forgot to ask, how much was the kit? Where'd you get it?

Cheers ;)

hotfour0k, can you please post up some pics of the installation in your engine bay, would also be interested in having a look at your dual battery setup. Was it a custon job, or a kit? Cheers mate.

Command AP60 Cruise Control was from Supercheap - $219.

Projecta Dual Battery kit was also from supercheap and I had to fabricate a new battery cradle for both batteries.
Kit came with auto switching solenoid and all wires and connectors to wire it up.
I'm using a AGM 600CCA battery as my starting battery, and an N70 for the auxillary battery to run fridge, top lights, stereo etc. (Soon to be a deep cycle ~90Ah)
See http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/viewtopic.php?t=102490

This pic shows the actuator located on the firewall to the right of the turbo.
Wires run from this to the control unit under the dash, and you tap into the vacuum line that allows the cable to be pulled.

There is a speedo type cable running from the actuator to the throttle linkage... Was really easy to setup.

You need to attach 2 magnets to the tailshaft and then I bolted the sensor to the crossmember... hopefully out of the way when 4x4ing :?
I used Araldite to help 'try' to keep the magnets secure.
Image

There was also a control pad installed on the dash... pics another day.

All in all it was an easy easy job to do, and so far it works flawlessly. :D
