Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Looking at doing this conversion to my 40...

If i cant get enough room behind the seats with the 45 roof i'm thinking of cutting up my current hard top just after the rear fold out windows and grafting that to just behind the door jams, to make an extra cab - like bidders' truck but on a shorty chassis.

Has anyone done either of these conversions? what was involved and does anyone have any pics??

i brought a 45 cab and sat it on my 40 looked silly as the bonnet is longer than the tub

also if your over 6foot good luck fitting into a 45 cab there tiny


i thought about choppin the hard top in 1/2 then getting a soft top made for the rear that way you always have protection from the weather and its easy for 1 person to remove in summer and you could have a few different soft sections made so you could have ute style and a fastback soft top style setup

Yeah cutting the roof in half with a soft top could be an option... would be alot easier to do, but i want to be able to keep tools in the car and keep them safe. I know you can bolt a tool box to the tub and lock it, but i like the idea of being able to lock things in the car... soft top would be awesome though...

that roof looks a bit longer than a standard 45 roof, maybe a cut down troopie roof??

Yeah thats my SWB 40. Ive just cut it up in photoshop... thats the sort of thing i'm after though if the 45 roof doesn't give me enough room behind the seats

Should be the same as the amount of space behind the seats in a ute = none (the seats rest on the back panel).
If you're handy with fibreglass, best bet is chop your shorty roof down. With my extra cab that i'm building i got a mate to hold a board behind the seats, i sat in it and moved the board and forth till it was where i had the space i wanted behind the seats - ended being a 350mm extension over a std ute.

I to have being toying with a similar design, even bought a complete hard but cut it to pieces, proberly look at getting a ute back and extend side like you pic using spliced sections from full hard top. my problem alos is a have a half cage and want roof to be removable.

looks like he might have just bobbed his roof. it also looks like he hasn't worked out the fibre glass top part either.
Ideal for me would be probably a 40 body with a lifted tray on the back so i could have gear inside and then put say 3 gas tanks under the tray.
just gotta work out how to not make it look retartded
