ford alternator problems

i recently did an alternator upgrade to the sierra and are having a few problems with it. The alt is from a ford EF falcon. and is 110amp.

the problem is when you apply a heavy load on it it shuts down and wont charge. it will run the engine and thermo and radio at low volume but as soon as you up the radio or turn on the spot lights it shuts down and the batteries get drained. what would cause this and how can it be fixed?

Thanx B4T

Sound slike the alternator is farked. Or maybe connected up back to front?

Testing the alternator while it's attached but not disconnected would help.

Since I seem to be failing alternator 101 anyway (see other thread) I'd say ask someone else.

(can you post a pic of how you have it wired up ??)

What does the charge light on your dash indicate?

charge light on the dash doesnt work on this alt. did on the old one.

the alt has a battery wire and 2 others. one is connected to the battery as a voltage indicator wire and the other i think is conected to the dash light.

How did you wire it up, compared to the original one? Either the alternator is r00ted or you have just hooked it up wrong, I reckon.
