would it work, given it had enough preassure from the master cylinder?

Yeah it can and does work. From memory the super tourer race cars (audis etc) run dual front calipers. Not sure about road cars that use this setup, but it does work and has been used and proven.

The BMW M3 and M5 upgraded brake package uses two huge calipers per wheel; unbelievable stopping power
Mate did one and put the old M3 brakes on to his secretaries 318i from what i have heard she sh!t herself the first time she braked

yeah it will work. Another option is to fit bigger calipers from another model, eg., defender calipers (and vented rotors) onto disco and rangie improve braking performance significantly as the defender pads are @15% bigger.

Also once fitted WB Holden pads to standard VK/VL Commodore caliper (bit of grinding required) which produces @15% larger swept area.

Fitting another caliper would have more dramatic effect but will probably require master cylinder up grade in most cases and adds more weight and I'd worry about rapidly overheating the discs.
