Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Howdy,

Just bought a used soft-top for my G60 project, as in this photo:



It's actually in better nick than the photo suggests, no tears anywhere, only real concern being the condition of the plastic windows.

They appear to have just been glued into place, or possibly glued and some kind of heat/pressure used as well. I was thinking of just cutting them out and gluing in some new plastic windows... is there a better way? Or would it be cheap enough to just get a pro to do it anyway?

ps that's not my G60, I just bought the soft top off an old rustbucket.

The car upholstery place I used to get the press studs replaced on the Zook used to offer to replace the windows in the softop on the zook for around $180, including both sides and the rear, and that was properly sewn in by proper upholstery equipment etc.
Not sure of your budget, but that sure sounded better to me than the thought of buying the plastic and trying to do it myself, not to mention the wife's sewing machine sure wouldn't have been up to the challenge of sewing them in.

Yeah, I was thinking of getting them sewn in but then I saw that the original ones are definitely NOT sewn in, they are glued in or glued in with some kind of heat as well.

$180... not worth anywhere near that much to me, I'd rather buy the plastic and glue it in myself.

That's why mine still had it's almost opaque windows when I sold it. That was almost half the cost of a whole new softop windows and all.
Must admit, the kids like 4WDing more now they get to see the scenery as well through the transparent windows in the Patrol.
But all those years of barely being able to see out must have got them in the habit of not looking, cause lately they've been asking for an in-car DVD system to use on trips. Not sure they liked the answer I gave them
