G'day all. As i'm new to the zuk scene, will a standard 92 wide track suzuki sierra handle towing a 4.75 Bay Runner ally boat? About 850kg Could it be modded to do it or just don't bother?
Thanks

It'll TOW it OK, just a matter of stopping I'm not sure of. I once flat towed a Mitsushitshouse Stigma from Mildura to Melbourne with my '85 Zook, but the Stigma had brakes.

Sierra towing limit legally is 450KG. There was a thread a short while ago on this, havea a read of that and it should give you the info your after.
Search is your friend :D

Seriosuly, It's not the wisest idea. Towed my fathers 4.5m timber twinhull the other day (around 750kg) with my 91 Sierra. Only going up the drive way (never went on the road) and the steering was too light, could dry steer with one finger touching the wheel.

just a thought are lwb zooks got a differant tow rating or the same
I'm guessing the same since the only thing differant is its alittle bit longer

My WT LWB zook can legally tow 750kg as stamped on the towbar, i also remember reading this in the manual too.

tow bar rating and the rating that the car can legally tow are two different things. you would expect the tow bar rating to be higher.

I tow my 3.7m tinnie fully loaded with camp gear and esky's withy no drammas. I don't think it is as heavy as yours thow.

Oh by the way my boat is powered by a Suzuki 4-stroke 15hp ;)

As was mentioned in the other thread, what you can tow legally is next to nothing weight wise, and if you do decide to tow over the weight, you void you insurance, and in the event of an accident, even if your not at fault, you can still get into shit.

I don't suppose you want swap for my Suzuki 6ph,anyway do you know how fast it goes ?

Towbars,Hayman Reece towbars are rated to 550 kg 50kg on ball, others are often a bit less. You normally need trailer brakes over 750 kg but my V6 Vitara its over 450 kg,I'd be suprised if a serria different.

i have a 3.9M tinnie with a 30hp on the back. i dont use it much, but i did tow it a lot with my vit when it was still standard-ish.

there are a lot of stock sierras up here towing tinnies up to 4.3m that i have seen. they seem to tow pretty good, and brake ok. i dont know if they just slow 10 times earlier or not.

i cant imagine tinnies being that heavy though. 850kg is heaps for a zook.

TOW I DONT THINK SO

NOT A CHANCE THE VEHICLE IS ONLY RATED TO 550KG TOWING WITH 50KG DOWN ON THE BALL, CAN'T MODIFY IT WILL VOID YOUR INSURANCE

having brakes on the trailer make the accepable load higher at all?

esp for a sierra.

I towed a 7X4 box trailer the other day with three loads of half metre of road base. About 700kg per load plus 200-250kg of trailer. As long as you don't try to stop in a hurry(especially on dirt) you'll be OK. I would use a larger vehicle if you have one available.

Not really as the trailer braked or not will still push the vehicle around.
