hi guys just some thought would be good


i was ringing around today looking for alternators for the old TB42
after ringing nissan i found out i need a loan just to buy one from there at over $1000

i also rang a few elecos who said bocsh at $300 was bullet proof and was cheap but as im still out of work its still out of my price range

now i did come across one from AUTOBARN $169 ready to go 12month warranty cant remeber the bran off hand what you guys thought about it??

for 169 and a 12 month warranty it will be an exchange 1, ya really better off with a new one.

Give em a call ... quality seems OK for the money.

plenty off ebay, that 'll get you going in the mean time. just go a generic bosch off and old holden or ford and modify the bracketsto suit. then when you are working again just get the 120 amp bosch from an auto sparky for $300. it will swap straight in.

Have a search in the Nissan section for Commodore alternator.

IIRC, the 100A VS commodore one fits with a little bit of modification.

Alternatively (no pun intended..) I believe one from an old blue bird will bolt straight up. Only 50A or 60A though. Might be a cheap one to keep you running and I think that you can have them rebuilt to something like 85A fairly cheaply.

Both of these are what Ive read / heard, but not experienced, but it's something for you to investigate.

yeah definetely go the 2nd hand Bosch dunnydore, VL (80 amp) VR (@100 I think) conversion and keep one spare for when it carks it due to mud etc.
