G'day. Just noticed on my GQ the other day, that when i have my hubs locked in, im in 4wd or take off quickly turning or up a hill. and when i turn its like the rear tyres are skipping and i get a shudder/bounce effect through the car. Does not happen when going straight ahead. Its got a lsd in the rear, diff ratio's are the same. Wondering if anyones got suggestions? Maybe the clutch, maybe diff? any help would be great.
cheers

if the rear tyres are skipping its most likely your rear diff/lsd
does it do it only when the front hubs are locked and your in 4wd? if it only happens when your on gravel/wet roads its just your LSD and nothing to worry about...

when you are in 4wd with the hubs locked, the front and rear diffs are joined and and when you turn the front and rear diff rotate different amounts causing wind up, this needs to be released so the wheels on the rear are skipping, but if you contineu this practice you may end up with something in the drive train broken.

You should never have the car in 4wd and the hubs locked in on high traction surfaces, as this will lead to drivetrain windup. Most likley what you are feeling is the drivetrain shudder as it releases the windup. When you corner each wheel travels a different arc, therefore a different distance. If this can not be allowed due to the locked up effect of having 4wd and hubs engaged the wheel must slip slightly to release the pressure on the drivetrain. As Tiny said, doing this will lead to drivetrain problems. If its happening without dhubs locked in, or not in 4wd then maybe your lsd is suffering from shudder. If so, try changing your rear diff oil and add a friction modifyer to the oil when re-filling. I have had good success curing frontera lsd chatter with penzoil diff additive (holden actually use penzoil additive in their schatter elimination fault correction program)

I'm with lay80n - I reckon somebody's put the wrong diff oil in your LSD, and it's not happy. Start with an oil change, using a reputable brand of LSD oil. If that doesn't fix it, try a modifier as suggested, but ensure it's specifically an LSD additive - something like Promar will bugger your LSD completely.
Good luck,
Scott

If not wind up the Penzoil addy works well.
Easy to put in too as only a small bottle.
Have rear higher than front and pop it in.

Yep, it's "wind up" being released, happens to me too. On gravel/dirt roads - don't worry about it. On bitumen, you shouldn't be in 4wd anyway ...
