5" lift woes or engine mounts - GU

Righto then tech guru's, here's one for ya. Have a 3L TD 2005 GU that has a 5" "mantis" kit coutesy of TJM wollongong mob complete with 5 degree castor correction plates and adjustable panhards etc and tough dog big bore adjustables. Have been totally satisfied so far except for a minor hiccup with the shocks being from a bad batch apparently and faulty seals. All sorted by 4 Way tho. Problem I have now is metal on metal grinding noise in high 4 as I accelerate and back off in 4th gear (60k's or more) and can see no external marks where driveshafts are collecting crossmembers etc. Friendly Nissan dealer says they won't touch it thanks to the lift and say it is something in the driveshaft due to the lift. I have noticed the engine wobbles like a jelly desert when you stand by and grab the bulbar and give it a good shake but once again Nissan say it is gel filled engine mounts and "normal"..... seems I'll have to get an independant mech to diagnose and if it is attributed to something not associated to lift I can go back into battle with Nissan if it should be rectified under warranty... Any clues or similar events would help as I know plenty of Nissans up this high or higher without this sort of drama???

Had an engine mount let go on the cruiser.
The engine fan was eating itself against the shroud.
Maybe worth a look.

Hi mate i have the same problem and it seems to be getting worse, i have a mannel 5 inch lift on a gu 3 litre 2003 model, yesterday up at the wattagans the noise was very noticeable in 4th gear auto high range, i stopped and unlocked the front hubs but left the transfer case in 4 high and the noise was gone, must be some where in front diff or front tail shaft

I have checked them externally so I presume you mean check them out at diff and transfer connection points???

Yes, this has been suggested as a possible problem area for lifted Nissans even before I had this issue. I have seen a replacement for these that is supposed to do the trick for around $500 + install.

Yep, sounds like the same issue. Have you noticed any more movement in your engine than normal (tho not something you usually take notice of...).. This was pointed out to me by mech's that did the reduction gears and pro locker recently installed... They seemed to think the engine mounts or the dampner on the GU IV has failed and the engine rotates under torque loads causing the problem in the front tailshaft etc.... I couldn't see any noticable faults on visual inspection of the mounts tho...

Thanks, have checked all the clearances and nothing seems to be eating itself yet... will keep an eye out tho as I am looking for this to be the mounts so I can rip back to Nissan and hopefully win a stoush about getting it done under warranty....
