Hey i was just wondering if this has been covered on here b4? i have seen it done a few times and was considering putting a series 1 or 2 LR ute body on my rangie as the old body is a but rusty and beaten up. What would be involved in the conversion..

Wasnt the Mog Rover one of these?

Yes it has been done many times. The normal way to do it is to weld outriggers and a rear crossmember onto the rangie chassis to make it like a defender chassis. The mogrover was done using a different mathod - using rock sliders which connected to all the body mounts, and the sliders were then welded/bolted to the rangie chassis.

Getting it aproved is another matter. I have heard that Transport has made body-swap approvals and engineering inspections a lot tougher...

In Vic, you have to use the same year chassis and body so they comply to the same adr's or equivelant .

In QLD AFAIK the engineer determines what year the vehicle is - based on the age of the chassis, usually. So you need to comply to the ADR's for that year.

What about the opposite?

Say RR LWB (LSE???) onto a 110 or Defender chassis.

I was led to believe the LSE had a 110" w/b.

That would be pointless, easier just to fit the tdi to the rangie.

Which is easy to do . Disco TDi and box would be the best option if a 200 TDi ( saves alot of changing stuff on the engine)and does not matter which (def or disco) if a 300 TDi.

Did it to a 1971 Range 2 door. Put a 200 TDi engine from a disco in it

Speaking of strange body swaps, I once wrecked a stage 1. The guy that bought almost all the panels was planning to fit a LR body onto a holden panel van chassis. I have seen holden bodys on LR chassis, but not the other way around.

He had approval from an engineer, but the engineer wouldn't let him weld anything to the chassis... :D
