Hi guys, can anyone tell me where the intake air temperature sensor is located on a s1 v8 disco?
any help will be great.
thank steve.

AFAIK there is no IAS on the S1 3.9, It certainly hasn't got any inputs into the ECU at any rate.
The 4.0 and 4.6 with GEMS management has one, the Td5 and Freelander has one, and I think the TD6 RR has one.
The air density I think is calculated from the values sent by the hot wire AF meter, as part of the fuel map.

From memory the air density sensor was inside the ECU box itself.
No idea about the temp tho sorry

I know for sure that it is inside the flapper type air flow meter. I did a megasquirt conversion on my earlier RR and just jumper wired the air temp wiring to an external one.
I believe it is the same in the non flapper meter as well but haven't actually tried to fit the megasquirt to this RR so can't say been-there-done-that.

The flapper needs a air temp sensor to correct air volume measured by the flapper to mass. ie hot air is less dense than cold air so the sensor corrects for that.
As a MAF (mass air flow ) sensor ie hot wire measures air mass, no temperature correction is needed. So a 14 CUX does not have a air temp sensor.
It does have a fuel temp sensor though, again to correct for density difference with temp.

Thanks for that Phillip!
It all makes sense. I'll just use the fuel temp sensor wiring to connect an air temp sensor.
My biggest problem with installing megasquirt in this Rangie is that the ECU connectors are totally differnet between the two Lucas systems and I don't have a pin-out for the later version.
It'll probably be a bit of trial and error to find the correct wires.
