well stupid me tried to take off the sump

the haynes manual said undo bolts, break gasket seal with soft face hammer and remove sump. sounds easy as.(and yes at the start of the instructions it say for engine IN car)

cause i figured that the sump probably hasnot been removed in the life of the car so a clean out and a new gasket cant hurt.

BUT when all the bolts were out the sump wont come off, so i removed the pickup(another gasket to get) and the sump still wont come off cause the diff and left axel AND one of the cross members are in the way and it hits the bell housing if ya try and pull it out back ways.
but it needs it, i could just get my hand down to the bottom of the sump (in its partly off state) and i pulled a fair bit of dirt and other sh*t out

why o why did i do this, its gonna take ages (and lots of dosh) to fix.

any way while i was in the buying stuff mood got new oil/filter and sumpgasket and gasket gook and this is probably a good excuse to change the oils in the diffs too.

Thanks

You may have to undo the engine mounts and jack the motor up to give you more clearance.

Been there done that (a fair while ago)
Just drop the four bolts (19mm spanner) out of the cross member (with the cross member on a jack) and lower the cross member and diff assembly as one and this will give you enough clearance. Leave the tail shaft and CVs attatched. I can't remember where the front diff mount attatches. You may have to undo this as well.

If you move this a bit, then move that a bit it will seem to take ages.

Just jump in there and drop the cross member as above and you will probably wonder why you didn't do it in the first place.
