2.8 Hilux turbo - boost, fuel and EGT Qs

I have recently fitted up a turbo to my 2.8 Lux.
I also have a boost and a pyro gauge fitted (with sensor in dump pipe an inch or so from back of turbo) and a 3" system inc dump pipe.
The motor has 240,000km on it.
The gauge tells me it is running 7psi. What would be the safe level of boost on a motor that has a few Ks under its belt (Im thinking 9psi max)?

So far I havnt touched the fueling except for throwing some recon injectors on. On long full throttle hills the EGT sits on 500 degreesC. From what I have read 550 should be the max does this mean I cant wind up the fuel much at all?

Cheers
Paul.

do you have a boost compenstor fitted?

if not your not going to run any decent amount of fuel anyway....well not without blowing smoke when off boost.

the amount of boost is also depending on what turbo you have fitted, as high boost may be overreving the turbo and the turbo may not last long. also some turbo's tend to beat the crap out of the air and heat it up ie you get high boost pressure without actually adding that much air into the motor.

Depends how your mate has looked after his motor. Some 3L's have done 300k and still going strong. My one died at 270ks. I only had it for the last 40... You should get around 200k if you fit a turbo to a new motor. This seems a rough estimate, as I know a guy who changes his oils every 4000 and his motor is almost 500k with a turbo added at 190.

To the original question. 550 degress is the highest I think. There are other things that affect and raise the temp. A blocked air filter, a kinked/blocked exhaust, even low tyres pressures causing more resistance. I just fitted a pyrometer in. The pyro is fantastic! Will tell you lots and lots of things. with the boost gauge you can almost tell everything that's happening. Now just gotta learn to read it all....
