I remember in a thread hi_lux was 3 inches narrower than a wide track
to change over the tail shafts diffs ect. does any one know how much narrower the 86 rocky is compared to the wide track ?
or how hard it is to give hilux blood to the ol rocky ?
in running gear wise.
saw a web page a rocky with volvo tail shafts and diffs with vacuum diff locks front and rear so lookn at options the volvo not one of them!

3" Narrower is correct - 3" narrower than a standard Wide track Feroza !!
Not to sure about the width of a standard Rocky though
If you need extra width, get the IFS rear axle and the IFS hubs to put on a live axle Hilux front...these should widen your stance !!
About swapping over, I guess it would be a lot easier if you already have leafs at the front.........I'm guessing that you have IFS and that's why you're looking to put Hilux running gear beneath it !!

Think you'll have to swap both axles due to the R&P ratio in the diff's being different. Don't think you can match toyota ratio's with the Rocky ratio...also they toyota axles run a different wheel stud pattern..
That said, there is a Rocky in QLD with Hilux axles under it, SPOA. Said it was almost bolt in, spring width was correct, used backspaced wheels to make up the width difference, redrilled the driveshaft holes at the diff to fit...
Stock R&P ratios are a bit higher than the Rocky so that will help with larger tyres straight up as well..
So you'd need :
Set of Toyota Hilux Axles
Backspaced wheels and larger tyres
Steering mods
Diff locks
Engineering
You'd get a nice lift out of this, and more flex as you'd be SPOA now..

Thanks for that,
can get hilux gear cheap engineering may be a prob.
if i go re_set springs should i get an extra leaf all round or will the less flex be a down grade?

Your going to lose flex if you get an extra leaf. I'd consider that a downgrade...but depends on how much you lose :|

why would u reset your springs spoa should give you enough lift
