jacked my wheels up and found a bit of play in the wheels and i reckon it's wheel bearings (88 GQ by the way). But my dad (the one that was going to jack up my car off the steering arms) is dead set it's not.

Is it the wheel bearings?

thanks in advance

to check wheel bearings grab to the top and bottom of the wheel and shake it up and down.

if u grab the sides and try it u may\will get the play if any out of the steering linkages.

stick your head under it while u dad does it and see where it is.

Be careful though, when you check top to bottom slack it could also be your swivelhubs. To check this get someone to apply the footbrake and then check if you still get movement (top-bottom, front-back) if you do it is the swivel hubs, not the wheel bearings as these are attached to the wheel hub only, not the caliper which is attached to the swivel hub assembly.

I don't do any work with my dad for exactly that reason. Arguments always ensue, and then we don't talk to each other for a week. Nothing worse than getting mechanical advice from a retired builder who thinks he's always right even though I've been a licenced mechanic for around 20 years :agrue:

Oh yeah, sounds like wheel bearing adjustment to me too.
