Gearbox info

Hi,

I am just trying to get a clear picture of what gearboxes look like what, main issue for me is the input shaft and size of the gearbox section.

Here goes:

Image

A is from the flat face (that meets the bellhousing, not the shaft cover) to where the splines start, B is the length of the splined section, C is after the splines finish.

D and E are diameters.

I realise this is a bit of an ask but I thought someone might have some or all of the info already handy, from MQ petrol/diesel boxes.

It turns out the MQ diesel input shaft is pretty short, wondering if the petrol ones are longer!

Basically I am looking for a four or five speed that is fairly compact, ie gearbox section itself only a foot or so long eg a T18, MQ gearbox etc, but with an input shaft that has splines at least 165mm from the mounting face (ie A+B is more than 165mm)...

Anyway, if anyone has a gearbox that happens to be sitting on a bench right now, why not post some measurements, someone might find them useful one day!

Np 435 - very short box (shorter than t18/t19 afaik), 6.5" input shaft length, same splines as holden 10 spline. can measure exactly later. Output shafts would be more of an issue ?

Maybe, thinking I can use whatever transfer case comes with the gearbox though.

I am just sussing out some possibilities, it's just as likely nothing will eventuate...

well np435 measurements anyway :
A= 2 & 5/8
B= 1 & 1/2
C= 1 & 1/8
overall = 6 & 1/2

shaft diam = 1 & 1/8
spigot = 5/8
throwout shaft = 1 & 1/2
case height = 12" (excluding shifter housing)

Anyone able to give me these measurements for a series landrover gearbox?

series landrover: (second hand info, not checked by me)
A = 96mm (thrust sleeve only = 70mm)
B = 47mm
C = 27mm

I hope you're not thinking of using a series box for anything other than a paper weight. They are the worst box ever made in the history of the entire auto industry. They are probably too lightweight to even stop paper blowing away.
