Are the two recovery points on the bottom of most bull bars (usualy a hole in a ridge at the bottom of the bar) suitable for competition recovery points if I put a rated shackle in them?

sorry for the hijack but id like to know if the welded on peices of steel people put on the back are suitable or "approved".

i thought the bullbar ones werent good to use as they are just tie down or tow points.

Thats Cool. I know the comp specs talk about suitable recovery points. But what is suitable?

Also wondering if the square towbar revocery points are acceptable?

I wouldn't use them for any recovery situation. The aftermarket tow hooks bolted directly to the chassis are good for most needs depending on how serious the comps will be. I'm sure there are other solutions out there tho

if you mean you pull out the towbar and put the strap in there with the pin thru it.
yes i have seen these used at comps in and around sydney.BUT in saying this they now ask for 2 recovery points at front and rear

Well I was going to fit some front recovery hooks to my rig this weekend, but becuase the bullbar has been modded to suit a 2" lift and looks to be welded in there

I want to know could i use these points to recover from, my 4.3t shackles wont fit through but some smaller 3 ton ones should i hope. well anyway can this be used safely as a recovery point?

that doesn't look like more then 4-5mm steel  I wouldn't trust it. If you can't bolt a proper hook on go to a reputable fabrication joint, and get them to fab something up and weld it on. Stress the importance that it's done properly, and suitable for many tonnes of force, pick a number, I dunno, 5t?? More than the 4.25 shcakles.

the bolt holes in the chassis rail go through on both sides but because of the welded plate for the bullbar being moded :bad-words: i cant put a bolt all the way through and dont trust the bolt only going through one side of the chassis.

Any ideas on what i can do to fix this, Ie who i can go to and get it done?

i always use brisbane fasteners, but as your not in queensland id just recomend any good bolt and fastener shop.

http://www.xtreme4x4sport.com.au/docume ... e_2006.pdf

this is the official rules of Extreme Winch Challenge in queensland and it has most of the recovery requirement in it

good luck
