Outer Limits 4x4 Board

I've just about finished cutting my GQ patrol into a dual cab and want to shorten the rear of the chssis for beter departure angles.

I want to remove the fuel tank from its orginal position and bolt it above the rear diff & cut the chassis shorter then re weld the rear tie bar back on.

So what I want to know is are you allowed to shorten your chassis legally provided it engineered plus is there any law against putting your fuel tank over your diff?

go to ur bible and get the number of the engineer near u and ring them they are more than happy to answer ur qs and then u know for sure no f**k ups

Yeah consult the experts first. A good mate had an FJ40 which had the same chassis treatment all legal and engineered in NSW for on road use. Dont know about the fuel tank mod though.

Thanks fellas. I've been speaking to an engineer about everything i've been doing but he is very hard to get hold of at the moment. I guess i'll just have to ring in work time.

I've shifted the rear axle back and lifted the fuel tank to suit. The rules are different here (NZ) but all that the engineer was concerned about was the strength of the mounts and the fuel lines.

ive also moved my rear diff back in my SWB, i relocated the fuel tank between the cab and the new diff location, just make sure all your mounts are strong enough, and use high tensile bolts,

the engineer i used stated that the chassis had to potrude past the very rear of the tyre, so id check with your engineer first,

I may have to shift the rear axle back as well but i'm not 100% sure until I get my new tyres to suit.

Basicaly what I want to do is set it up so when running my road tyres that the wheels sit infront of the chassis but when I put the off road tyres on they stick out the back about an inch if that makes sense.

I cant wait to see pics of this new exteral roll cage your building. I'm going to build one similar for mine.
