Do Gu's have a problem with them playing up.
I had one play up on the weekend, car has only 65Ks on it!
Going to battle Nissan on Friday about it.

I changed mine over to manual. The auto hubs seem to have a mind of their own.

Hey patzuki

I had the same problem last week. My hubs where making a banging noise going from forward to reverse under load. Then started to make lots more banding noises when I loaded it up. I first thought I broke my CV's but wasn't playing too hard. I locked my hubs in manually with socket & never did it again all day. So now I have to manually lock them in & out which doesn't bother me. No sure if I should just go get myself some manual ones before they break properly on me out bush somewhere....

Does anyone know where's good & what ones to get?? & how many $$$ I'm looking at???

Cheers..... ;)

I believe your better off to lock them when offroad and not trusting the auto...

the auto locking hubs are actually a common problem, it happened on my old mans GU and we found them to be lockin in and out while on the highway and also in thr bush, its your best bet to fit some manual locking hubs, either AVM, or try and find some genuine hubs, im not too sure if GQ and GQ are the same, but you have your options,

Arb does the avm's for only $280 a pair installed, Nissan want $600 for one!

broke both my AVM's on w'end, but I was acting the hoon a bit. Was actually surprised they gave up so easy but I do have 43% trans gears in an auto, so the torque going thru em with foot hard on brake would have been pretty high me thinks. Cant get spares for em ( tried emailing manufacturer in Brazil - they wont sell em ) Wreckers want 180 a side for Nissan 2nd hand manuals. AVM probably ok if you go easy but watch-out with big wheels and low gears. Mind you - better than a CV breaking.

There is a reason for that. ;)

They have a habbit of breaking when hald way up a steep hill. I've broken about 6 just this year all AVM plus 2 which was another brand of after market hub. I was breaking one on every trip.

So it ended up cheaper to get the genuine manual hubs in the end off Nissan and to date haven't had a problem yet.

Cheers Mick.

if you are running anything bigger than 35s then dont go AVMs etc...
i went to ARB and asked for a pair and the bloke advised me to get standard manual hubs as they are stronger.

we run AVM hubs on my old mans GU with 83% reduction, and 35s duel locked and we are yet to brake one, they have been in for a bit over 2 years, and the truck gets used pretty heavily

Never been a fan of auto hubs. Too many people have problems with 'em. Manual hubs are so easy to pull apart and fix on the side of the road.

dont go avm they are shithouse.

get some genuine GQ free wheeling hubs thats what all the comp truck use for the GU diffs... or manually lock the hub in but time will take its toll on it anyway.

Got my passenger side hub replaced under warranty today, no dramas with Nissan. As usual, they state they haven't heard of this being much ofa problem!
