hey guys,

i am a diesel newb
whats the go with glow plugs before u start your car do you have to wait for the glow plug light to turn off every time.
i have tried starting my car with out litting to glow plug light turn off and it starts fine.
some people have told me thats it bad for your engine if u don't let the glow plugs warm up before u start your car
ps: i have a 2.8d ln106 hilux

You can start a diesel without glowing, but you will find it is hard to start, and it is'nt any good for your engine/starter. Just turn the key to glow, and wait for the light to go out (you should be able to here the solinoid go click). Then just turn the key and start.

If ambient temps are not cold, and / or the engine has already been running and has some heat in it, and it starts easily without excessive cranking then there's nothing to be gained by waiting for the light to go out.
