Can you weld the gearbox

Hi all,

I am modifying how the selector for my pto connects up, and am changing it from a solid linkage, to a flexible rod in a sheith. this is because of vibration and noise coming up through the pto lever. I am trying to mount the sheith at the pto end. Is it possible to weld the side of the gearbox housing on a HJ60 with a H55f, this would allow the bracket to be very simple, yet very strong. Has anyone successfully welded the geabox housing while it is in the car still with oil in it.

Any comments would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Sam

i dont think id bve attempting it in a hurry perhaps if it was dis assembled are u useing mig or ark as slag in the box would do u no good also heat would more than likely ignite the oil

i presume the box is cast iron, if so ur not goin to do it succesfully without stripping the box and preheating it then welding then post heating then letting it cool down slowly, have fun.
