noice
im no portal expert but they could be volvos or unimogs but it has disk brakes. Which means they either custom made them to fit the MQ diff which would be hard without a fullfloating rear end (but how did marks adaptors do it?) or got a set of volvos/unimogs and put them under with a disk brake conversion. Or could be a tottaly different drop axle I dunno about. Any way it looks sweet

It looks like that they're portals from a Volvo C303

I agree, even the stud pattern, rim type, and portal design look the same as a volvo c 303, but someone has gone to a lot of trouble putting some discs on them. From memory all 303 use drums.
edit typo

anyone ever seen or heard of this before?
Ya I have heard of it....I am the one who originally linked this truck here on OL.
They are Volvo portals and the owner has done a custom disc brake conversion. If I recall right he used TLC parts to do the disc brake conversion. The Patrol is in Sweden or Swizterland IIRC.
It is pretty nice eh? For about $5k we too could slap Volvo portals under our Patrols.

Why TLC parts, I thought the volvo is very similar to Rangie diffs or they share some parts? why not use rangie disk brakes

I am not sure why or if he for sure used TLC parts. I just recall reading on a Euro Patrol forum he used TLC parts. Maybe he had them around or was available cheap? Beats me....they might even be rover parts. I can't tell from the pictures. Ya I think you are right about rover/volvo portals sharing some parts.
It is pretty damn sweet though that is for sure.

I think the volvo portals would be a great mod for MQ/Mk's. Fairly easy to do since the drop in on the same side as stock, leaf sprung, ect. But in the states a set is hard to come by and run about $5k before mods...

Not sure about Disks. But I did read in the Rover section ages ago. That they use the same Drum brakes as the SIII Landrover.

They arent mogs

im the only one i know of with mogs under an MQ
and for wat its worth, if u look at the other pics, it isnt an mq front diff. at least its not a C200.
so he has swapped the front diff out and id say he could of swaped the rear out for a full floater too..... is there any info specifically on what diffs are actually in it?
i dont like volvo portals, but i spose they do the job........

because for the amount of work involved in putting portals on a diff you can get alot better portals than volvo portals.....
besides you would be stupid to waste your time putting any sort of portal on a MQ diff anyway...... MQ diffs are too weak and if you want to go portals, u mean business and mq diffs arent business....

Put 2:1 reduction on the ends of an MQ axle and it would be very strong. Unimog inner axles aren't any thicker than MQ inner axles. The Nissan housings are pretty damn good, too.

unimog axles are abit thicker than patrol ones and the splines themselves are quite abit fatter, like a large amount, i have them sitting beside each other in the garage.
mq rear diff i agree..... mq front diffs are rubbish, portals on a gq diff would be pretty kewl
