I wanna beef up my MK Shorty's Spring mounts, shock hangers, and chassis. An internal steel rollcage, semi-buggy sorta and barwork, may also be on the cards. I'd do it myself but can't get my hands on the right gear nor have the space. Any info that could point me in the right direction would be appreciated. I'm not interested in paying $3000 pingers for $5OO worth of steel.

""I'm not interested in paying $3000 pingers for $5OO worth of steel.""

unfortunatly thats probably what you will pay, $2500 for labor and $500 for steel unless you find the room and get the tools to do it .
For the $2500 you'd get a decent MIG welder, a grinder, a pipe bender, and probably rent a shed for a week !!!

As for the $500 worth of steel  , are you making a whole new chassis ??? at a rough stab in the dark I'd recon you'd get out of it for under $250 at the most !!!!.... that leaves $250 to do a welding course :D

just did a spring over on my mk, cost me in all $450 and that includes 4 new 5012 rancho shocks, bloody unbelievable flex and wheel travel. the thing handles great and drives really nice i would recomend the job to anyone and i dont know why nissan didnt get it right in the first place. about the only thing nissan stuffed up on an excellent vehicle was the front suspension. but oh well nothing time and money didnt fix!!

I'm interested in a sprung over ride wouldn't know where to start though. What happens with tailshafts, I've gotta shorty with a 4inch springlift and ranchos, can I use the same shock. I'd like to get extended shackles, drop two leaves from the pack and spring it over. Are you in QLD. I've been looking at the Superior Engineering stuff. I'd like to see a shorty that's already been done, it couldn't be too hard.
