Lifting GU

Hi,

Second installment in my GU Wagon suspension and wheels questions.

I've established that the 2.8TD isn't cut out for pushing a larger tyre than a 33".

Next question is what's the best lift height to go with. Will the 33's look too small under 3" or 4" lift? I was originally planning 2" lift but would like to go larger if it'll look OK.

So, for 2" lift i need to do springs, shocks, steering damper and castor correction bushes. If i go to 3" or 4", what are the extra bits to do?...brake lines, panhard rods??? What else...

Help is appreciated.

Mate,

A guy in our club did some work on his fuel pump and put a 3" exhaust on his 2.8TD GU and drove it at Nissan Trials with 36" Tyres on it.

It went well.

Usually you can get away with 3 inch luift in a GU with just shocks and springs.

If you get the 2.8 tuned and open the exhuast up it will haul ass. You get the best results out of these motors compared to some.

ive got the 2.8GU and all i changed was springs and shocks for a 3" lift and havnt had to touch anything else! i will no doubt though get extended rear brakeline and new castor bushes one day! but power wise, a very good mate of mine went 3inch from his turbo back and i had troubles keeping up with him in my 4.2GQ goin up hills!

the tyres rub under full flex in the rear guards and on the front spring mount under full flex on full lock.

Sounds like i really need to go 3" with the 285/75's. I want to get good flex with out scrubbing. So i guess they'll scrub more under a 2" lift.

i have 3inch and 35s and they only scrub very slightly on full flex in the rear.
rim offset is something that needs to be considered as well as lift

i have a 3" lift with 33's.

I only get slight rubbage in one spot under full flex with swaybars off, on the inside of the passenger (i think) rear side, but this is because i dont have adjustable panhards, and that tyre sits further in than the other. If i had adjustable panhards, then it would be centered under the car properly and i doubt it would rub anywhere.

I needed springs, shocks and castor bushes. If it was another 10mm higher and i reckon i would HAVE to go panhards and brake lines. My brakelines are guitar string tight under full flex, and technically i could use panhards now, but at the moment i can live without them.
