ARB wiring Loom and wiring up spotlights

Post by bogged »

Wiring is one thing that really fuckin loses me. :bad-words: :bad-words:

I got the loom from the GQ to go on the GU. The lights are no issue, but I'm confused on the wiring for the spotties.

The ARB light wiring harness has 3 relays

2 x 20/20
1 x 40/20

There are 3 spare plugs - 2 with 1 pin and 1 with 2 pins. (see photo marked 1, 2, 3)
2 of the plugs come out of the 1 relay.

1 black wire comes from middle relay into plug from other relay as a common - but it goes into plug with the red wire. (see photo)

I wanna wire up the spotties... Which plugs/wires do I go with - 1 relay for 2 spotties is kewl, or better with 1 for each light?

The 2 single plugs I would guess are Power, I could just run a wire back to Negative on the battery to earth the lights (LForce 240s), would that work - or earth to body is better, or must it go back thru relay?

Thanks

Thats a headlight upgrade loom, nothing to do with spotties. Ignore the three white plugs coming off the relays and just plug it into your headlights and to your main battery.

Run a seperate loom for the spotties (If you had bought proper lights they would have come with a loom, switch, relay etc, etc, instead of wanky plastic fantastic Lightforces!!!) :P

I'll be farked if I can follow everything that's happening there, but it appears all three relay coils are wired in parallel, and applying 12V to the two pole plug will switch them all at once.

It looks like two of the relays are supposed to switch to ground, so could be used to negative switch a pair of spotlights each (say max 250W per relay, although the wires don't look that chunky - may be better to switch one light per relay?)

The two single connectors look like they'll connect together - so you could put two relays in series? NFI why you'd want to...

Good luck,

The two plugs that fit together are for shonky Toyotas, they have to be joined or cause problems further down the line.

If you knew anyone that worked at ARB you could probably get them to fax you a copy of the instructions?

As stated, the 2 plugs that only have 1 connection need to be connected for certain vehicles (Only Toyotas I think) so the high beam indicator light works.

The 2 pin plug is where u can connect an ARB loom for spotties so they come on with the high beam

i had a quick look but all my wiring is sprayed in that red urethane shiat :D , but from what i could tell the blue and red wires are for the spotties running thru a 40 a? relay or a 20 couldnt realy see its a bit dark, also there is a red and black wire that goes to a 30 amp fuse which is in the loom for the spotties aswell, hope that helps.
