Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Where is a good place to buy rod holders from in Brisbane. And I'm talking steel or stainless not aluminum. Everywhere I've looked seems to only stock aluminum ones.

Have an aluminum set. Absoulte waist of time.

I have ali and they do the job fine

I would have though aluminium would be okay... but anyway, they look very basic to make so why not make your own from steel? Then you could design some that won't stick (illegally) forward of the bullbar like they all seem to do.

TJM make decent ones for about $50 with good mounting clamps, fairly solid in either silver or black.

May be alloy but they are solid unlike some of the beer can ones that the tackle shops sell.

My aluminum ones are crap. Crap I tell you. I have to tighten them so tight that they are bending around the bar before they stop moving on the bar. Even then the rods twist them when i go over bumps.
Will never buy aluminum again. Don't care how ell made they are. It just aint strong enough when you have 4 x 13 foot rods in them.

Bit of a contradition there, never buy alloy irrelevant of how well made they are.

There are some great alloy products, unfair to bag all the products because your example may be a POS.

try putting a piece of thin rubber like an old inner tube around the bullbar then clamp up tight on that might stop the slipping.

Hmm I just use the $25 wilson model from the tackle shop, fairly sure its alloy. Has 2 13 footers and 2 15s and I havnt tightened it since I bought it. Nothing wrong with alloy rod holders, you must have just bought shit ones.

I thought they were illegal now - no forward protrusions from the bar....

I remember a thread from some dude ages ago gettin nailed for em was very pricey fine too...

The tjm bar comes with muffler clamps ( or mine did anyway)

I have never seen Stainless ones before if anyone does make them I think they would be pretty expensive.

If the ally ones are spining on your bar what makes you think steel won't??

They are illegal to have fitted when not in use.

As many people do leave the fitted when not in use (see them every day) they will eventually be banned outright.

You can be fined $125 in QLD for having it fitted without a rod in it. Even if you say "im going to the tackle shop to pick up my rod"

No doubt there are several people posting in this thread that have them fitted when not in use. To those people i say why? lazy? dumb? didnt know it was illegal? trying to get them banned? retarded?

And no I have never used one nor needed to use one.

Thats all I done was wrap tape around where the u bolt clamps on never had a prob.
Be easy enough to knock up a steel set and get em powercoated or sprayed unless you want them shiney? Be a lot cheaper than stainless and most metal fab joints would probably help you out.

I just put some clear tube around the u bolts on my aluminium one and it is fine. Same thing as the tape, you shoudln't have to tighten the hell out of them :)

Just weld it to the bar. Welding's the new bolt-on.
