Speedo Recalibration

Post by matta »

Hi Forumers. I'm trying to find out who can recalibrate my speedo drive on my Rangie? 205 tyres to 31's. Brisbane / Gold Coast Area please.
Any advice??

I believe you can go to a specialised "speedo" type place and have them recalibrate your speedo for your new tyres...

Some other options you have would be to use a GPS on your dash to read your speed from, or do some calculations based on your old and new tyre sizes to work out what speedo speed = what road speed.

Pretty simple really, and the second option allows you to go back to the 205's if you need to and then have your speedo back to normal.

it can get quite expensive having the speedo recalibrated.

Just get someone to drive along side you and mark down where 60klm, 80klm and 100klm are on the speedo.

as greg said, then you can go back to normal with stock tyres.

another option, check out http://www.marks4wd.com/speedo-correction.html they sell speedometer correction units.

Go to this site and work out how much your speedo is out as a percentage and then get your calculator out and calculate your new speeds and mark them on your speedo....

Cheap and its as accurate as your existing speedo....

matta, if you ever want it calibrated properly (for engineering for example) just ask taxi drivers who does their meters.

get the local "law inforcement boys" to do a speedo check...simply put, they hop in ya car...you drive ....they point a radar gun at tree or building and it gives a reading... you tell em what ya speedo says and they write it down.... once ya got the various speeds you want ... just rewrite em on ya speedo face !!!

Try SGESCO or Max Instrument in Brisbane. Same company with two names ... go figure. I posted them my RR binacle which was really off the mark (would show about 40% of real speed) and they repaired it and posted it back. Cost $165. Not sure it this was trade or not.

I didn't have mine modified to match my 31's (yeah laught it up if you got bigger) but I have had them make up an inline adapter that screwed on the outside of the gearbox for another vehicle that had all the ration's changed. I just told them the type of fitting I needed on each end (they can help you here) and the ration I wanted. You should be able to calculate the ration you need. These ration boxes are about $165 too. Otherwise you can give them the vehicle and they will roll it with a pulse counter and work out the right ratio for you. I did all mine by mail because they are about 2 hours away.

UMMMMM My driving licence test was to drive the local senior sergent to the supamarket bottle shop.....purchase a dozen bottles of "Melbourne Bitter" and drive him back to the station....all safely !!!
When we got back to the station ..... my application had been done by a jnr conny and all I did was sign it and pay the $35 for the ticket !!!
Mind you I had been driving on the roads for 2 years before I was old enuff to get a licence !!!
When I did my bike licence they had bets as to wether I'd ride the 750 honda I had or borrow a 250 which was the law back then.... I rode the 750 !!!
never lost my ticket yet !

Heres your answer!!
Go to a bike shop {push}& buy a $15 speedo to fit a pushy.
Glue the magnet on the inside of the wheel & fit pickup to backing plate.
Extend wires into cab & program tyre size[some only go to 29 inches
but most do 31 ]
Super accurate & will go to 120 KMH witch is fast enough 4 a Rangie!!!

Steve.
