tyre softner

I was in the auto barn in moss st brisbane this week checking out a few drag slicks they have in there. There was also a tin of this stuff they use to softn there slicks for more traction. Any one tried this stuff on rock crawling tires?

I have used AZ-NU tyre softener on Old Drag tyres, and it works well. Nowhere near as good as new tyres, but better than crappy old hard tyres.
In 4x4, I dunno.

Yes, a number of people

have experimented with all different types of additives to tyres especially for rockcrawling purposes.
Some products were brought that were actual tyre softeners and some were made up from recipies of the internet.
Up until the first set of sticky tures came to Australia a few of us used this at events with different success.
Round 1 2005 at Rover Park i had my old 37" Baja Claws loaded with what i found to work the best at that point in time.
I used a good mix of ATF Fluid and some deisel thrown in aswell, i applied (soaked) it to the tyres every night for 7 days leading up to the event. It did make them softer but by the end of the first day they were pretty well back to normal.
It was only a few weeks after this that i got the 37" Sticky Mickies so i have never played around with anything since.
I say it works but only for a limited time.
But it has nothing compared to a true sticky Compound tyre.
Also Tyre additives are illegal to use in WEROCK. (only if they catch you though)

SHite hey And we all just thought you had put a V8 diesel in the buggy when we could smell it .......and with how it sounded at a few events you would of thought it was a diesel tractor donk

We used to use it on gokart slicks about 8 years ago with great success. It was great stuff but pricey from bad memory $20/L and it really soaked up, when applying with brush you would get rubber basically dripping off then you would wrap it in glad wrap and recoat every couple of days for a week before the race. They since banned it due to health reasons and i have to admit it did smell like liquid cancer.
Coating a large 4wd tyre you would prob use bout 1-2 litres per tyre so using bought stuff could be pricey so you would have to use the ol dodgy diesl and atf trick but as stated above no road tyre will ever get much stickier than brand new so could be wasted effort. With the gokarts the problem was the tyres would go off before they ran out of tread that is why we used tyre treatment. Gokart slicks you can stick your thumbnail into and dirt tyres are like marshmellows, i never seen a comp rockcrawl tyre but i would imagine the are a world apart in both softness and cost.
