LWB NG Pajero.. Auto V6 or 2.5TDI for daily driver/fun?

Hi guys, I'm looking at 2 1990 LWB Pajeros right now, both have auto transmissions, and have almost the same price, about $6500 CDN. Basically similar condition (good to very-good), except the diesel has 180,000 km, and the gasser 3.0 has 86,000km. Diesel and gas are about the same price here IN Canada right now, with diesel actually a bit more $$ currently. Any ideas/suggestions which one I should be looking more closely at? It's going to be driven daily a 40km commute, and taken off mild off-road adventures with my wife on the occasional weekend. Fuel economy and repair costs/reliability are my main concerns.
Thanks for any info,
Duncan

Hi Duncan,
86.000 km from 1990 tili now??? Strange... Have a better look on the engine.
My opinion is definitly the V6 if it's at a good condition. Stronger but eats more fuel. Tdi is also ok, good fuel consumption but i find it weak. These things are a matter of taste. Do you have the chance to drive them? This is going to help decide what car is for you. Availability of spare parts is also a point to have in mind. Good luck, Pajeros are not trucks, are companions...
Cheers

Takis, thanks for the reply. I drove the 2.5TDI and I thought it was adequate, if a little slow. I didn't expect much from a 100bhp engine. I figured that it would also keep me out of trouble, speeding-ticket wise. LOL. I've had a few warnings.
The 86,000km is because of the high costs of driving in Japan, or it could be fraud. My mechanic should be able to tell from wear-and-tear.
Thanks,
Duncan

Try the 3.0 V6 and you tell me...
THIS is adequate...

Well, it looks like I'll be getting the 1990 2.5TDI if the bank gives me the go-ahead for a line of credit to cover it. No cash right now due to incoming baby end of October.
At least this way I get the L/U Auto trans for the extra fuel economy.
Thanks for the replies

i think you will be hapy with the 2.5. I have the 3.0 V6 but drove a 2.5 a while back - cant beat the torquey feeling of a diesel...
