I'm looking at a 4runner tomorrow.
85 model
5 speed
2.8 dohc efi straight 6 from a cressida, has been running this motor 12yrs
Running straight gas, petrol system never set up
AC, power steer
Suspension done about 6yrs ago
270,000km not sure how many km on motor

Is there anything i should look out for with this conversion? I'd never heard of it until i saw this one.

Anything to watch out for in these older 4runners?

What would be a good price?

Any help appreciated. I'm just looking for something with some more room than the swb vitara and cheap to run, get parts etc. Most my 4x4ing is just on the beach and dunes when i find time to get away.

Thanks
Andrew

If the 2.8 is a toyota 5MG-e (which it should be) it should be a good conversion heaps more power and "should" be pretty reliable. Should also be very good on fuel

Strange sounding conversion, to me at least.
On the good side Cressida straight sixes have a good bit of go in them.

Post some picks of the conversion if you do get it please ;)

It's very close to a bolt in job (apart from wiring) fits the bell housing and the engine mounts (I think)

Search for 5MGE and you will find a guy in NZ who has done a heap of these conversions, suprasurf i think his name is. Drop him a line for any questions.
I looked into this conversion as they sounded like a good set up. Would definitly make sure the cooling system and engine condition is up to scratch.

cheers
