Living with Defenders

Since I've pretty much sold my Disco, I was starting to look for another 4wd. I was looking at other Disco's then I saw a Defender, which reminds me of my old BJ42, but with a better ride and air-con. I would pretty much use the defender for trips, and sometimes for driving around town.

I don't know much about defenders, but my budget only lets me look at the 200/300tdi's. I know the gearing it different in the LT230, but is there anything else I should now about defenders if I start looking for one.

Since i'm looking for another 4wd I'm open to suggestions, my budget is around $15000, it must have a diesel engine, coils, and Air-con, would be nice if it was auto for the missus but that doesn't matter too much.

Thanks,

Andy

I hate to suggest it but you could get a 90's 80 series Landcruiser for that price

I thought about the 80 series, but most of the Diesel have high kilometers on them.

I'd suggest looking at an 80 series too

I have a 2003 Defender and if I could get a decent trade in price, I'd swap over to an 80 series. Far more comfort and HEAPS on aftermarket gear available.

Not as good on fuel as a Defender...but a fark load better on the blacktop.

I love to hate my fender but dont think i could ever part with it....Yeah the 80series are nice but there a yota and dont have any character..

For 15k you will pick up a very good 300tdi around the 96model at a guess
and probably with a few goodies already on it.....

Just make sure its been looked after and has a good service history and that the timing belt has been done....Apart from that get a pre purchase inspection done by someone who knows Landys and u should be right..

Great fuel economy and with a tweak of the pump and a free flowing exhaust they move along nicely for a house brick anyway...

My only gripe's would be,uncomfortable if your over 6ft tall, blind spots, handbrake lever posistion and expect to rip your jeans on the door latch when climbing in lol

go for the defender. Love them. They are so ugly they are beautiful  plus have the real off roader look and tackle anything front end. All the niggles with the defender are feature of the car , and what makes you love it more.
I would never ever get a toyota (i know i know spoken live true Pom  )
Plus i like to be differant and drive somthibng out of the ordinary. And toyota's here are just sssooooo common
