Righto so this is the final straw with my daihatsu feroza, its been nothing but trouble since I bought it and I will never touch another one again!

Had the motor rebuilt about 10 months ago (burnt valve a month after buying), its used 1l of oil a week since the rebuild and now it appears its got a blown head gasket.

Ive been looking at trading it in on a dual cab hilux and the day before getting it looked at for trade price its temp was just goin up and up so I pulled over. Milky coozey crap all over the bottom of the oil cap, all through the coolant resevoir. Not happy. Also looks like a heap of shit has been blasted out the back of the motor onto the top of the box, hopefully its from the headgasket!

Its with the mechanic atm getting the head taken off, hopefully it will reveal a blown headgasket as this is covered under warranty. Mechanic was saying all last week he thought it would be a cracked block or a crack in the head. Does it seem at all likely that a water gallery could have cracked into either the combustion chamber or an oil gallery?

Will be most unimpressed if its anything but a headgasket, need to get rid of this piece of turd before it costs me anymore money!

Anyone wanna buy a 93 feroza? :D Goin cheap :P

Cheers
Brad

doesn't help u now but if it was using that much oil straight after the rebuild why the hell didn't you go back to the mech and get him to fix it straight away, a rebuilt engine should not be burning oil :?

But with those symptons its gotta be the head

a mate had his feroza engine rebuilt and it used lots of oil, turned out to be a turned ring that scrached the bore. ( but is fine now)

ive never had probs with mine using oil, but all in the first 6 months I stripped the keyway out of the crank, blown head gasket, clutch, water pump, idler arm and front wheel bearings. All I did was knock it around a little offroad and she's been running fine now for years. Good luck with the sale and better luck with your next one

I reckon ive had it back to the mechanic a dozen times since its been rebuilt. They didnt seem to keen to rebuild it just because its using oil ! Tried to tell me that I musnt have run it in properly!

Gonna ring shortly to find out the prognosis, I really hope they've got the head off !

What a crock of Sh*te!

Tell the mechanic to fix it or take them to court / tv current affairs show... make an issue of it.....

No newly built engine that is right uses oil.... if you dont run it in properly - and most dont, you only reduce its life as it will start to blow smoke sooner than it should.... Using that much oil means they didnt put it together right.... dont accept it unless its right - get RACQ or equivelent to check it before you pick it up again..... sounds vaguly to me that they put the gasket on upside down....:bad-words:

You have had an unfortunate outcome to a good little car, hope the hilux treats you better.... will be happy to tow you out after breaking an axle though :D (they all do!)

Yeah im kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place. Ive been mates with the mechanic for quite a while, only just recently started taking my car to him.

Im trading the car in so I dont really wanna cut sick at him as I still owe him a bit of money and he's let me have an account with them to pay shit off gradually. Since im trading it in I dont really mind what they do with it. They tell me they threw a pile of chemiweld into it and it seems to be behaving itself.

Getting it inspected for trade in tomorrow, hope it holds together!

Cheers
