Engine Enamel

Hey,
Just been painting my engine, back and front of the engine with spray engine enamel paint.
While the rag was wet with metho I wiped some grease of the other side that was already painted and noticed I also wiped the paint off.
The can says the paint will cure once the engine is running, which in my case could be a few more months. Can I cure the paint another way like a butane torch or other ideas to cure it.
Just worried over the next few months I'll end wiping or scratching the paint off !

Being enamel, the paint will dry from the outside in...if you put too thick of a coat on the outside will be dry to touch, but the inside could still be wet.
It will cure (to some degree) over time...but I think for it to cure fully it does need the heat treatment. I wouldnt use a blowtourch or anything like that. There is a difference between flame and heat.
Maybe try a set of heat lamps!!!

Ta, the paint had been on for 2 weeks which I wiped of with a metho rag.
I might try setting up a heater in there as I dont have heat lamps !

If you want cheap heat lamps, just get some from bunnings, they have those yellow halogen floodlights really cheap, they put out a lot of heat.

Not a bad idea actually. I use one of those for light and it does warm the garage up noticeably I gotta say!

I have never used engine enamel before. Do you need to prime the block first? Do they make heatproof primer? Does it work on alloy blocks as well as cast iron?

If you use VHT Flameproof coating, it doesn't need to be primed.
I used normal VHT Engine enamel on my top cover on my Corolla, with no primer, and it been on a few years now. The finish is still fantastic.
It's great paint

Brake Calliper and Drum paint works well and dries very quick.

Enamel in a can will never go off that hard you can wipe it with spirits of any type.
Unless your using emamel with a hardener (2 component) it will always wipe off with solvents.
2 pack is the only paint that will go off hard enough that you can wipe it with solvents.
Cheers Mick.

I painted my wheels with VHT Acrylic Enamel (in a can), and it doesn't seem to wipe off with solvents...
Then again, I mightn't be trying hard enough

I painted my rocker cover acouple of months back .. i know not the same but this is what i did
degrease it
sand paper
tape the inside up
sand basted it
blow it out with the air gun
degrease again
painted it with white engine primer
then LIME green brake pad paint
seems to be fine
but i took it off the engine to do it and let it dry for about an hour between sprays

You could give it a quick wipe but a good automotive solvent will wipe it off.
Cheers Mick.
