G'day, a mate of mine has a 82 Jackaroo, and the alternater is stuffed, where is the best place to get a new one in Victoria.

He has been quoted $900 for one  , it's something about the vacum for the brakes running off it.

I know nothing about Jackaroos :D .

Diesels use a vacum pump off the back of the alternator for brake vacum assist, as they have no manifold vacum that can be tapped into like a petrol engine does (though now many diesels do have a throttle plate and therefore manifold vacum)
