stearing noise

hi all,

i have a noise when i turn the steering wheel when the car is stationary or moveing slowly. iv got a 92 jx vitara.

there hasnt been a change in the feel of the car on the road but theis noise started last saturday and it is realy giving me the shits!

sorry for lack of info.

it is a screaching noise, it sounds like it is in the steering collum. you somtimes hear it on old cars when they are at full lock.

hope that explains better. :?

Is it a power steering setup? Some cars can shudder when stationary and turning the wheels close to full lock. Or maybe the belt itself?

It 'll be lack of lubrication in the steering column. I've had it on a couple of Vitara's and it's not that uncommon. Doesn't seem to be a problem One person drilled a small hole and sprayed in motorcycle chain lube and that seemed to fix it. Another rckoned that there was a support bushing where it goes through the firewall that needs a good spray. Replacing the bushing with a sealed bearing is supposed to be a permanent fix. I haven't tried these myself as it hasn't been that bad yet.
