frontal noise on gu

hi my dads got a 2.8 diesel patrol and it has auto hubs and every now an then when he reverses and then takes off forward theres like a dragging/ticking sound(like a stick caught up dragging on tar) and then a big thud then the noise goes away. is this the auto hubs unwinding or something because he reversed first... thanks in advance

Easiest way to tell is remove allen key bolts that secure the auto hub unit take it off (make sure its in auto mode and not engaged) then repeat the movements. Nothing will spill out and wont hurt it. They can be odd units sometimes those hubs making funny noises for no reason.

Mine does exactly the same thing.
Sounds like a hub, still haven't checked yet.
