After lift Disco modifications

Okay i have done the lift yesyerday and the truck is starting to look good but there is not a whole lot of room around the tyre.

I went for a very small and basic amount of offroading last night and on a little bump heard that sound of tyre rubbing on guard BUT when i checked all the tyres they still look good.

Of course im now paranoid of ruining the tyres when io go on a trip next week.

What do i need to do?? Anyone done this before and can think of an easy remedy while trying to avoid a body lift.

Thanks

angle grinder

try find somewhere near your house where you can twist up the suspension (even if its just some car ramps in the drive) so you can see exactly what is scrubbing and where

step1. Go to the hardware store and purchase a 4" grinder and some cutting discs, or an air hack saw.

Step 2 Do what Shakes says, and lop off all offending alluminium or steel that comes close to the tyres.

Step3. don't worry any more.

Bunch of tossers im not going to hack my car to bits when i dont even know what " offending " bits of metal are in the way.LOL!!!!!!!!

I can imagine me with a grinder....worst looking disco in the world...heh heh.

I wanna try and avoid cutting metal if i can but i know i will prolly end up there.

Gonna go and mount some kerbs tonight and see if i can see where its hitting.

should i have to extend my bumpstops|????

MOUNT SOME KERBS???!!!!

Try some thing a bit more challenging, like a neighbours suzuki swift or RX7 bonnet...

...And then get the power tools out!

the points on mine(88classic) were bottoms(halfway down) of the gaurds and the bracing bracket directly above the tyre.

cut the feck out of them with 4" grinder and finished them up with a airhacksaw.
Had to cut into the rear doors including the inside steel panel of said doors.

now i need wider offset rims or wheelspacers since they're rubbing on the inside now :|

What sized tyres and what year Disco? Basically lifts do not necessarily remove the need for cutting. The interference is front to back at full articulation.

From previous posts it is a 265/75/16 on a D1?? If so, you MUST trim. Sorry, body and spring lifts won't solve the problem.

Find a building site, there is always a big pile of dirt you can ramp on.

full flex

bud not that hard, just find grassy swale, or a bit of timber on a wheelie bin (only drive to the edge though), know of anyone with a forklift?, any small boulder retaining walls near you?, high lift jack?, etc where there is a will there is a way!!

GO THE GRINDER

Just look around. There are HEAPS of things that you can max out on. Then make with the grinder

Its liberating

LOL i just dont know yet. First gotta get some articulation and see where it hits and then go from there.

I am wondering though if i do go a 1 inch body lift wether that would get rid of the need for the grinder ??

I just cant see where its going to hit on the edge of the guard... No S*&t i reckon i have the perfect offset rims... they just seems to sit right.

Oh well better go try and flex it a bit before i runn my mouth of about it being perfect and all.

....a body lift of 2.75" did not cure the interference with our D1 for 33's so grinding front and back on the rear fenders was needed.

Front has a TJM bar and was reasonably OK - it just needed a slight trim from memory, lower edge, door side.

Going to 35's soon, so more cutting and grinding will be needed including a bit more on the front

Once you start, you soon get over it.

Assumming your cutting a D1, start with the rear of the rear wheel arches.
If its a 4 door the lip that the rear door seal against might need some modification too.

You can use tin snips as it only weak aluminium. On my car I them folded a lip with pliers to stiffen up the panel.

Call Les Richmond Automotive and get some flares to cover up where you have cut the guards and the doors, add a bit of pinch weld on the rough edges and while on the phone to LRA order a 50mm body lift, as they are engineered and come with everything you need.

Then you will have no more rubbing...

Well i needed to cut out those rear quarters as they did foul the tyres on full articulation.

Damn is that ally tough, spent ages hammering a lip on it, too ages to stretch the metal. My father in law helped me and we took around 20mm/25mm of the rear quatrer and after a bit of polishing there is hardly any damage to the paint....SCORE...

Now i want either a body lift or a 1" coil spacer.
